It feels like it was yesterday when we left the cinema wondering, if we would ever see another Conan film again. While Momoa as Conan did a pretty good job, the vehicle he was transported in left most of the movie goers wanting. The movie was unsuccessful and a sequel was not to be expected. The rights fell back to Paradox.
A couple of days ago a rumour started circling around. The former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger told an interviewer, that he would be pursuing the Conan role again, a role that was dear to his heart, since it kickstarted his world fame as a movie star in Hollywood. Heated discussions abound in the Robert E. Howard fan circles if this was a good thing, a bad thing, disastrous or maybe even a chance.
“The original ended with Arnold on the throne as a seasoned warrior, and this is the take of the film we will make,” Malmberg told me. “It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.”
Many of the details that are connected to the movie are still uncertain. One of the producers could very well be the writer of the movie, since he – Chris Morgan, writer of Fast and the Furious – is not only passionate about producing the epic, but also has a heightened interest in the franchise itself and considers it his dream project. It remains to be seen how many cues the movie will take from Robert E. Howard in comparison to the 1981 movie, which deviated from the original character, world and story quite a bit.
We will keep you posted on the details of the project right here.
Hello fellow Conan movie fans (Waldgeist here :))! Since Funcom will be releasing a movie tie-in for the upcoming Conan Movie, I thought it would be a good opportunity to inform you, that Funcom has changed the business model for the MMORPG Age of Conan and renamed it to Age of Conan: Unchained. It’s now a hybrid model with an item-shop and a free-to-play component!
Funcom has been working together with Lionsgate to promote the movie and they’ve been likewise pointing people to the virtual version of the Hyborian Age, so I’d thought I’d share this little fact with you too, just in case you want to jump in and try Age of Conan: Unchained and be ready for the Savage Coast of Turan movie-tie in later this year, to follow in the footsteps of Movie-Conan to the land of Turan, to meet characters from the movie some twenty years later.
A little teaser for you: our very own Taranaich has also sent out a couple of questions to the Funcom Team about the movie-tie in, which we hope to get back after the summer break (some time in August).
I am no longer actively posting news on the blog, but I am still privately host of the blog. I see the amount of comments and people posting increasing every day and so I thought it might be time to direct a question at you, the Conan Movie Blog Community.
We wanted to ask you guys first, because we all know the entry barrier for a forum is pretty high and many people just can’t be bothered to manage yet another forum account. But we also don’t wanna pass on the opportunity to give you a more extended home, that enables you to be more active.
Choose what you like and we will act accordingly 🙂
On a sidenote, a couple of days ago we broke through the 100 000 unique visitors per month barrier for this month already 🙂 – Yay! (good job Taranaich for continuing to build this community!)
To clarify all confusion. This blog as it is now will stay exactly as it is right now, including all it’s functionality and comment system. This poll is just there to determine how many people would be interested in an additional forum – obviously we need people to make a forum worthwhile. We didn’t know outright how many of the readers of the blog would even be interested in conversing in a forum, so we thought to give it a vote. Again, nothing will change once a forum is added. It’s just there as an additional functionality.
As part of a general Comic-Con preview, Empire Online will host a little special about the upcoming Conan Movie in their next Empire episode. As usual they also preview the content in a very low resolution, but the keen eye of our community member Stampfer noticed, that the image used in the article is an unseen image of Jason Momoa as Conan.
It looks like Millenium finally started giving out image material to he press, so we can look forward to seeing more material popping up, the closer we get to Comic-Con and afterwards. Jason certainly looks quite impressive in the latest images we saw of him, very much buffed up and his hair getting the proper post-processing dark treatment.
We are looking forward to seeing (and receiving? *wink at Paradox*) more from the movie.
Now that the movie is fully shot and done, more and more scenes dribble into the public. Here now is a row of images, that were published by Julie Nicholls – she got them from a contact – a follower of the Conan Movie Blog Facebook page. Thanks a lot Julie for sharing those and not just staring at them in private. Much appreciated.
If you also have pictures like those and want to share them, with the rest of the Conan Movie community, just throw me a mail at webmaster – at – conanmovieblog.com. If any of you wants to become a regular contributor to the blog, your of course also welcome 🙂
Just click on them, to get a higher resolution version as usual.
If your heart skipped a beat after reading that title, all I can say is: HAHA (imagine Nelson voice)! In these days of mindless waiting, it’s time to have some proper fun and here is a little ode to Conan the Barbarian and Arnold Schwarzenegger in general. Of course there is no Conan musical, but this video makes fun of Arnold’s famous accent and some of the more iconic moments and lines from Conan the Barbarian.
Since it’s also time to add something of value to the Conan Movie fan, I thought you guys might like this lil image here. It was posted on the conan.com boards and is an image from a spanish magazine. I cleaned up the scan a bit, so you can properly enjoy the image. We don’t know where this shot is from, or why it’s appearing only in a spanish magazine, but we hope to get more like these in the not to distant future. Comic-Con is approaching and it’s said to be a date where more details on the upcoming Conan movie, interviews and stills from the movie will be revealed.
NuImage finally released the image of the already leaked version of Conan, from the Cannes presentation, on the web. In addition the NuBoyana Filmstudios announced, that they completed the shooting of the Conan Movie. In the official version of the picture they’ve also given Conan blue eyes, as the actor Jason Momoa originally has brown ones. They chose to change this afterwards with CGI instead of using blue contact lenses.
Most would agree, that by now the visuals of the actor Jason Momoa as Conan are close enough to what most would have wished for. Especially his facial expressions and strong general features are met with positive feedback throughout the community. The blue eyes effect on this image though looks quite unrealistic and I personally don’t understand why they would go for CGI if it doesn’t look more real than contact lenses – blue contacts always look kinda fake, since they are opaque to hide the darker original colour and do not reflect the light realistically. I suppose this was just a quick edit and the final result that is applied to the real film will be a lot better, so nothing to be worried about.
We appreciate to finally see a first glimpse at the real still photography of the movie and can’t wait to see more of it.
We’ve waited for official pictures, to spread the news and be respectful to the producers and Paradox Entertainment, so they get a chance to show off their main hero and the movie in the best way possible. They passed on that opportunity and let practically anyone spread horrible pictures, blurry, shaky mobile pictures around the world, without ever coming forward with even the same pictures, that were already leaked in high quality. Since this is a fansite for the Conan movie, we didn’t want to keep anyone waiting any longer.
So here is a collection of all Conan Set pictures, that we could find on the web so far. We apologize to Paradox Entertainment for putting this public, but we’ve waited months for better shots and at some point, we have to give the interested what they come here for: The newest info and rumour on the Conan Movie.
We will extend the Conan Set Gallery when new stuff arrives and we gladly take down all those shaky, blurry shots if Millenium or Paradox decide to put out high quality set shots and stills of the movie. We really don’t want to damage the Conan movie or it’s public appeal, but now that really every film site on the planet has leaked those shaky pictures, there is not much harm, that we can do with it.
Today, after having a major stroke, Frank Frazetta, the definite master of heroic fantasy art, passed away at the age of 82. Mr. Frazetta was a gifted artist from a very young age, being able to paint out of his mind, without referring to photographs or puppets. In addition to that, all of his art has a phenomenal kind of fluid motion frozen in the moment, that immediately captures the viewer with it’s energy. He is the inspiration for so many great modern fantasy artists and his contribution to the world of Conan is invaluable. For many people Frank Frazetta defined the look of Conan and the grittiness of the Hyborian Age. His image on the lancer paperback back in the 1970’s were one of the reasons they became such a major success and started a Conan boom unheard off until then.
Rest in peace Frank Frazetta, creator of worlds. Your art will continue to inspire and I hope you are united with your loving wife, wherever you are now.
Funcom’s MMORPG Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures steps into the next cycle and on the 11th of May they will release the expansion Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer. Today they have released the epic launch trailer and I thought I had to share it with you, because not only am I employed by Funcom as the German Community Manager, but I am also a vivid fan of Conan and REH.
Don’t kill me for going Offtopic, but I just love the trailer, Conan’s voice in the beginning, that we used parts of the Phoenix on the Sword dialogue and the music. After all I am still a Conan fanboy 😉
