Lang on loving characters

A little quiet time now, as Stephen Lang leaves another morsel for us to ruminate on in an interview with In the interview, Lang discusses a wide variety of subjects, from his early life in Queens, to acting, to honouring soldiers, to new challenges. He doesn’t say much on Khalar Zym or anything else in the film, but there’s still this snippet:

And this summer he plays the snarling swordsman Zhalar Zym in the reboot of “Conan the Barbarian.”

“Look at this guy,” he asks, proudly pulling out his phone to show a picture of himself in full makeup. “I tell you, a lot of the characters I play, if I don’t love them, nobody will. But if I love them enough, maybe people will at least recognize them.”

Presumably this is the same photograph that was released a few days ago, though it might be on of Lang’s personal photos. It remains to be seen whether audiences love Zym, and if they do, whether it’s in the way they love Javier Bardem’s Anton Chigurgh, or in the way they love Raul Julia’s M. Bison. They’d better get that full trailer out.
